Ash Wednesday, February 22nd

Lent begins this Wednesday. Ashes will be distributed approximately 15 minutes into each Mass offered at 7:30am, 12:05pm and 6:30pm – not after Mass. You do not need be present for the entire Mass as Ash Wednesday, while it is “a holy day,” is not one “of obligation.” But I sure hope you stay for the entire Mass as we offer something far better than ashes – the Body of Christ.

The theme for Lent this year is, “I Believe.” I encourage each family to take one copy of the Lenten edition of “The Word Among Us. Along with daily meditations on the daily Scriptures, it has articles including, “Turning From Self To God,” “His Mercies Never Fail” “Mother Teresa’s Spiritual Powerhouse,” “A New Friend and a New Church,” and three articles on the Gospel: “What It Is,” What It Is Not,” and Putting It Together.” Pick up your family’s copy and “Find Hope in the Gospel Message This Lent.” Also inserted in the bulletin is the Lenten Flyer.

Give yourself a divine gift and plan to attend daily Mass at least once a week during Lent. It’s a great way to start the day.
